Minister represents Wales at international Doha Climate Change Conference

Environment and Sustainable Development Minister, John Griffiths, is attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar, from Tuesday 4 December until its close on Friday 7th December.
Friday 30 November 2012

The Minister will be raising the profile of Wales’ contribution to addressing climate change by highlighting Wales’ strategic approach and progress. He will also enhance Welsh Government links with networks, regional and sub-national government and UN agencies to secure funding to support Wales’ international climate change initiatives.

Speaking ahead of attending the conference, the Minister said:

“It’s a packed programme and I will be looking for opportunities to identify new economic and social opportunities for Wales. There will be a number of opportunities for me to discuss our proposals to build on and strengthen the framework for sustainable development in Wales.

“I will also be promoting the actions we are taking through our Wales for Africa programme.”

During his time at the conference the Minister will:

  • Attend meetings as part of the UK ministerial delegation.
  • Announce the way forward for Wales’ collaboration with Lesotho, in southern Africa, to tackle climate change.
  • Speak alongside Ministers from regional governments from around the world at a major summit side event on Wales’ climate change strategy.
