OLYMPIC MEDALLIST HANNAH MILLS TO LEAD TEAM WALES IN CARDIFF BAY

Silver Olympic-medallist Hannah Mills will be seen leading Team Wales against eight competing teams and racing will take place in the heart of the bay directly in front of spectators.  The event is the only UK leg of the series and will be held in Cardiff over the next three years thanks to funding from the Welsh Government.

First Minister Carwyn Jones commented:

"I am delighted that the Welsh Government's support has helped bring the Extreme Sailing Series to Cardiff Bay for the first time this summer. This is a top-level, international sporting event which puts the Welsh capital alongside cities such as Singapore, Istanbul, Nice and Boston.

"By supporting events like this, the Welsh Government is aiming to promote Wales as a world class sailing and water sports venue, as well as generating economic benefits by attracting more visitors to our shores." ‬

Hannah Mills added:

"The last few weeks have been amazing, a complete whirlwind! Now I am looking forward to my next challenge; racing with Team Wales at Act 5 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Cardiff. It will be awesome to return to my hometown as an Olympic medallist and race on the Extreme 40 catamarans- a completely new experience for me. It looks to be a great event and hopefully there will be more winning and more celebration!"
