Running to the end of March, the TV advertisements will feature Welsh couples talking about their favourite Welsh destination, focusing on their emotional attachment to a certain part of Wales. The ads will be aired across the Midlands and North West markets in England, along with the Republic of Ireland. In addition, this year will see a significant emphasis on reaching new prospective visitors from London and the South East of England where the ads will also be aired. The three locations showcased in the first advertisement are:
- South Stack Lighthouse, Anglesey
- The National Museum Cardiff; and
- Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire
Tourism Minister Edwina Hart said:
“Our Tourism sector is worth £4bn to the Welsh economy and is one of our key growth markets. We hope our campaign for 2013 will inspire even more people to holiday in Wales this year. We are featuring some fantastic destinations which I am confident will inspire people to visit and enjoy some of the great destinations that Wales has to offer holidaymakers of all ages.”
The television advertisement was directed by Cardiff-born Siri Bunford, currently one of the most in-demand commercial directors in the UK. She has been awarded 15 Gold Promax awards for her various commercials and promos for Channel 4, British Airways, Renault, The Gold Council and Santander.
The ad also features background music from Trwbador, the popular acoustic/electronic duo from Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire. It will be supported by radio adverts on Classic FM and will run alongside poster and print adverts in UK national newspapers as well as extensive social media targeting and a direct mail campaign.
