John Ablitt, of Caernarfon, is to join the Committee which was established last year to provide advice to Ministers.
His experience includes roles at Snowdonia National Park where he was Head of Recreation and Communications and most recently Director of Communications.
During his time with the Park Mr Ablitt was also responsible for sustainable transport and a number of important access projects including the Snowdon Sherpa and the Green Key Initiative.
Welcoming the appointment Carl Sargeant said:
“To make public transport more accessible and attractive it’s vital that we listen to its users and the Users’ Committee plays a key role in enabling us to do this.
“John brings with him good experience of the public transport system in North Wales and will undoubtedly strengthen the diverse range of experience, knowledge and expertise of the Committee.”
Applicants were asked to demonstrate a range of essential skills and experiences including being a regular user of public transport in North Wales and significant knowledge of public transport issues in Wales with a focus on the north.
Mr Ablitt’s appointment brings the Committee’s membership to 10, including its Chair, Adele Baumargdt. Each member has been initially appointed for three years.
The Committee meets on a quarterly basis in all four regions of Wales, taking evidence from a range of interest groups on issues relating to transport in their region and is expected to publish its first annual report later this week.
