The Minister with responsibility for Transport, Carl Sargeant will today (Monday, 16 July) officially open the new access roads to the Wrexham Industrial Estate.

The new routes, which have been delivered on time and within budget, will reduce congestion on the local road network and provide huge benefits to the businesses and workers on the Estate.

With improved access to the Estate from the A483 in the north and the A5252 in the South it’s anticipated that the new route, which has been delivered approximately £5m under budget at £30m, will be used by 18,000 vehicles every day and reduce congestion in Wrexham Town Centre.

Speaking before the official opening of the new access roads, Carl Sargeant, said:

"This is a project that exemplifies the Welsh Government working closely with the local authority to deliver local priorities on time and within budget."

" With improved links the Industrial Estate will provide a welcome boost to the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents near the industrial estate by taking heavy traffic away from their homes."

" This new access road reflects our commitment to further improving the transport infrastructure across Wales and will play a key part in improving the competitiveness of businesses located on the Estate."

A 130-strong workforce from Birse Civil Engineers were commissioned to deliver the scheme which had been identified as prioritised projects under the National Transport Plan.

Cllr Ian Roberts, Mayor of Wrexham, said:

"This is a historic day for Wrexham Industrial Estate, its businesses and workers, who have all waited so patiently for this opening. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Welsh Government for their commitment to the area in ensuring the money was made available for this essential link to the Estate."

The northern access road is a dual two-lane carriageway and runs from Borras roundabout at its northern end down to Bryn Lane roundabout next to the JCB factory on the Industrial Estate at its southern end.

The southern access road, which is predominantly a two-lane single carriageway, runs from Five Fords in the north to the A525 at Cross Lanes in the south.
