Minister welcomes Llanddulas cycleway re-opening

Transport Minister Carl Sargeant today welcomed the re-opening of the cycleway at Llanddulas which was closed following the running aground of the MV Carrier in April.
Friday 18 May 2012

The MV Carrier ran aground near Llanddulas in bad weather in April.  A rescue and salvage operation then followed.

Transport Minister Carl Sargeant welcomed the news as the salvage work to remove the wreck has been completed ahead of schedule.  The cycleway will be by midday today.

The Minister said:

“I would like to pay tribute to the work of all those involved in the salvage operation.  The main concerns have been minimising any impact on the environment and public safety.  The closure of the cycleway was necessary to complete the work.

“I’d like to thank local residents and visitors for their patience and co-operation while this work was on-going and I am sure they will also welcome the news that the cycleway is now open as the salvage operation has been completed safely and successfully.”

Temporary speed restrictions which were put in place regarding this incident will also be lifted lunchtime Friday.

First Minister Carwyn Jones will be visiting North Wales Police headquarters next week to meet those involved in the rescue and salvage operation and to thank them for the work they have done.
