The grant for Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru will ensure it can continue to support and co-ordinate the activities of over 100 local eisteddfodau throughout Wales. The money is in addition to the £10,000 already awarded to the Cymdeithas for the 2012-13 financial year.
Mr Andrews said:
“I am delighted we have been able to award this extra money to support the important work of Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru towards ensuring the success of small eisteddfodau throughout Wales. As set out in our new Welsh Language Strategy, providing activities for young people outside school will be vital to ensuring the development of the language.
“Next month the Welsh Government will inherit from the Welsh Language Board a significant role with regard to promoting the use of Welsh. I am committed to continue working closely with key stakeholders who can contribute to this task.”
Megan Jones, Chairperson - Cymdeithas Eisteddfodau Cymru said:
“This money will enable the Society to employ Development Staff, in order to promote and support the Eisteddfodau in Wales. The people involved with the eisteddfodau are mostly volunteers and they welcome any support/advice the society can give and this extra money will be well used to strengthen the partnership that already exists between the society and the eisteddfodau. We are absolutely elated that the Minister has agreed to support us and we will make sure that the money will be utilised in the best possible way.”
