Coaching and Mentoring
Over the next few years, public services in Wales will face significant challenges to achieve transformation in the way services are delivered, often under difficult circumstances. Leaders and managers will play a pivotal role to develop and deliver services which are seamless, efficient, inclusive and responsive to public need.
Public Service Management Wales (PSMW) is looking to support leadership and management development by creating an integrated approach to coaching and mentoring across the Welsh public services where:
- Leaders and managers learn from each other as they coach or mentor and are coached or mentored
- Leadership and expertise are used and recognised from beyond the traditional management hierarchy
- People learn what they need to learn, when they need to learn it, from the person best qualified to facilitate that learning, and learning not only includes the development of the individual but also of their relationship with others so that a change at a wider systems level becomes possible
Both coaching and mentoring can be very effective as a support to personal development, career development, raising performance, helping to release the potential of individuals and teams and providing benefits to the individual and their organisation.
