I wrote to you on 24 July regarding your request for information.  You asked for:

1. Details of the 8 projects which have received the £900K funding, through the EADS Foundation, from the Welsh Government, in particular:

1.1  Which projects have received an amount of money and how much money have they received?

1.2  What are the projects intending to achieve?

1.3  How long are these projects scheduled to last?

1.4  How will these projects outcomes be exploited to benefit Wales?

2. What Welsh Government initiatives require Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing research and technology?

3. What Welsh Government initiatives require Low Carbon Economies research and technology?

4. Who independently valued the IPSE project IP (Intellectual Property) and at how much?

5. At what cost was the IPSE Project sold to EADS and how will EADS exploit IPSE Project in Wales?

6. How will the IPSE Project support Welsh Government initiatives and what initiatives will it support?

1.1 Funding

The Welsh Government contributes £900k per annum to the EADS Foundation Wales Company’s programme of R&D activity over a 5 year period to 2015/16, with a break point at the end of 2013 to allow a review of progress.   The funding is not for any particular and individual projects.  

1.2  What are the projects intending to achieve?
1.4 How will these projects outcomes be exploited to benefit Wales?

1.3  How long are these projects scheduled to last?  

Different projects have different timescales – some are scheduled to complete this year, others in 2013 and others in 2014.  It should be noted that programmes are reviewed in phases and continued funding viability is assessed during each project.

The research and technology funding, through EADS Foundation Wales, supports projects from industry and academia which align with the priority sectors of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Technology and Science for Wales.

4. Who independently valued the IPSE project IP (Intellectual Property) and at how much?

The company which independently valued the IPSE project IP is Swansea based Inngot Limited.  The IP was valued at between £148,000 - £200,000.

5. At what cost was the IPSE Project sold to EADS and how will EADS exploit IPSE Project in Wales?

The IPSE IP is yet to be sold to EADS.

6. How will the IPSE Project support Welsh Government initiatives and what initiatives will it support?
