The submission details a recommendation to the Deputy Minister for Housing to change the current approach, which is to fund an annual BME Housing Conference, and adopt a new wider equalities approach.

Specifically this involves starting preparations for a new equality and housing conference from 2009 and the establishment of a small grants programme for the financial year 2008-09 to enable housing and equality organisations to hold seminars and small events on relevant issues.

These proposals reflect a wider change in the equalities field to a more integrated and inclusive approach which incorporates all of the equality strands. This is particularly reflected in the setting up of the new Equality and Human Rights Commission in October 2007.

The holding of a BME Housing Conference was a key action of the previous BME National Housing Action Plan for Wales which is to shortly be replaced by the Race Equality Housing Action Plan 2008-2011.
