A sign to highlight motorcyclist deaths along routes of concern has been designed and approved for use in Wales.
The Minister for the Economy and Transport has agreed the design and use of a sign to highlight motorcyclist deaths in Wales. The Minister has further agreed instructions for its use by the Welsh Assembly Government and its Trunk Road Agents in Wales.
Date of decision / Dyddiad y penderfyniad:
3 September 2008
Statement of information / Datganiad gwybodaeth:
Further to meetings with senior Police Officers, Local Authority Highway Engineers and the Trunk Road Agents a sign has been designed to raise awareness on roads where motorcyclist fatalities are occurring.
Care is necessary to ensure consistency in using the sign and to maintain its impact by discouraging a plethora of assemblies. To this end guidelines for using the sign have been prepared.
In the first instance the sign is proposed for use on appropriate trunk roads in Wales although it is likely that local authorities will also consider its use in due course. Each assembly will require site specific authorisation by the Welsh Assembly Government.
