Welsh Government response to the DECC Phase 2B consultation on FITs (Saesneg yn unig)

The Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development has agreed the Welsh Government response to the DECC Phase 2B consultation on FITs.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change opened the Phase 2B consultation on proposed changes to Feed-in Tariffs on 9 February 2012, as part of their wider review.  The consultation applies to England, Scotland and Wales and proposes reductions in the tariff levels available for renewable energy generation and changes in the administrative arrangements under the Feed-in Tariff scheme (FITs).

The Welsh Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development has noted and agreed the Welsh Government’s response to the consultation and written to the Secretary of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change highlighting key issues for Wales.

The relevant powers are Section 62 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 which empowers the Welsh Ministers, the First Minister and the Counsel General to make appropriate representations to the UK Government about any matter affecting Wales.

Section 60 of the 2006 Act empowers the Welsh Ministers to do anything which they consider appropriate to achieve the promotion or improvement of the economic, social and environmental well-being of Wales.  Section 71 provides that the Welsh Ministers may do anything which is calculated to facilitate, or is conducive or incidental to, the exercise of any of their functions.
