Funding from the Safer Communities Fund

The Minister for Local Government and Communities agreed the proposed allocations for the Safer Communities Fund; the grant aid to NACRO Cymru, the joint costs of the Youth Justice Board (YJB) Secondee, the proposed grant to YJB Wales in support of the regional settlement pilot projects and the consultation events.

The Minister for Local Government and Communities is asked to agree the proposed allocations for the Safer Communities Fund; the grant aid to NACRO Cymru, the joint costs of the Youth Justice Board (YJB)  Secondee, the proposed grant to YJB Wales in support of the regional settlement  pilot’s and the consultation events.

The statutory authority enabling the Welsh Government to grant fund projects which seek to prevent crime, or reduce the fear of crime, is contained at section 126-128 of the Housing, Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.  

Section 60 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 (the “2006 Act”) also provides that the Welsh Ministers may do anything which they consider appropriate to achieve the objective (amongst others) of promoting or improving the social well-being of Wales. Youth Justice Functions are considered to fall within this definition
