From March 2012, Integrated Family Support Services (IFSS) has been available in 10 local authorities.

These authorities include; Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda-Cynon-Taff, Newport, Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan and Wrexham.

Phase I - Pioneers

Three pioneer areas have been operating since September 2010:

Phase 2 Areas

Two areas, working as consortiums, established their teams during 2011/12 and began work in February/March 2012:

  • A regional consortium of Hywel Dda University Health Board, Powys Teaching Health Board, and their respective local authorities Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys; and
  • A consortium of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and its respective local authorities Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Phase 3 and 4 Areas

In March 2012 the Deputy Minister for Children & Social Services announced the expansion of the service. This will ensure that families throughout Wales have access to a team by the end of 2013.

Phase 3 will cover the Swansea/ Neath Port Talbot/ Bridgend area (Western Bay consortium).

The expansion of the service in North Wales and Gwent will make up Phase 4.

Further development of the service

We aim to extend Integrated Family Support to families where there are  parental:

  • mental health problems or mental illness;
  • learning disabilities; and/or
  • domestic violence issues.
