Curriculum and Assessment

girl writing

We are committed to building a world-class education and training framework. We regulate, develop and modernise the curriculum, assessments, examinations and qualifications.

Our vision is to provide a coherent and integrated curriculum and assessment framework for schools, which raises standards of achievement and widens educational opportunity.

We are responsible for keeping the whole school curriculum and its assessment arrangements under review and advising the Minister for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills accordingly.

Key area of work include drafting the content of the National Curriculum subjects (known as the National Curriculum Subject Orders) at all key stages, and may include providing non-statutory frameworks for aspects of the basic curriculum. We also advise on the statutory assessment arrangements.

Statutory regulation of the qualifications in Wales

The Qualifications and Learning Division (QLD) is responsible for the statutory regulation of the qualifications in Wales. We focus on regulating all general, vocational and skills qualifications and recognising awarding organisations, outside Higher Education, as part of a three country framework with England and Northern Ireland.

Information and guidance on the recognition process and the application for becoming an awarding organisation and/or accreditation of qualifications is available on the ofqual website.
