Early years

Practitioner with young children
The support and stimulation children receive in their early years fundamentally affects their abilities and potential throughout life.

Our approach to early years is therefore founded on the Flying Start programme for the 0-3 age group and the Foundation Phase for 3-7 year olds.

These are supported by other complementary programmes including Cymorth, Sure Start, the Basic Skills Strategy, the Parenting Action Plan and the Childcare Strategy. Taken together, these form a comprehensive suit of programmes targeting the needs of young children and parents and helping to improve outcomes for the most disadvantaged.
