Financial support for learning

Financial support could be available to help you get into learning and training. Learning more skills is often free at basic levels. These is also financial support available for adult learners.

Although most full-time learners are not entitled to social security benefits, these may be available ot certain learners such as single parents and disabled learners.

Individual Learning Accounts Wales

Finding well-paid work can be difficult if you don't have relevant qualifications. Paying for the right training can make things even harder.

This is where an Individual Learning Account Wales (ILA Wales) can help. Your ILA Wales can help you pay for fees and books for your chosen course. It isn't a loan so you don't have to pay the money back.

Career Development Loans

These are loans of up to £10,000. You can borrow this money to help you do a course that will help you in your career. While you are learning the Government will pay the interest. You don't start repaying the loan until you have finished your course.

Assembly Learning Grants

Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Assembly Learning Grants help people on low incone to get into further or higher education.

Student Finance Wales

You may be eligible for financial support from Student Finance Wales. This will depend on:

  • where you live
  • your household income
  • your personal circumstances
  • the course you would like to study
