Information for Parents
What your child studies is only one aspect of their school and college life. Our free school breakfast initiative is just one example of how we are helping your child get off to a good start.
One of your first concerns for your child, particularly while they are still very young, may be childcare. Finding somewhere you trust to look after your child can be difficult. Our childcare in your locality section gives you contact details to help you find good childcare within your area.
Some subjects, particularly reading and mathematics, are best taught at an early age. We have collected some tips and ideas to help you help them. These cover a variety of ages, starting at pre-school and continuing to the end of primary school at 11.
What will your child learn at school?
Once your child is at school you will probably want to know what they will be learning. The school curriculum is flexible, catering to the needs of the child and the school. Each school will teach slightly different things in different ways. Schools must cover a core curriculum, and our section on what your child will learn aims to give you a taste of what your child will be learning.
We have a number of initiatives to enrich and improve school life. Free school breakfasts and our appetite for life policy are there to ensure your child gets good, nutritious food while at school. To help improve your child’s experience at school we have an anti-bullying policy. You will find advice on what to do if your child is being bullied, or if you suspect they are bullying other children.
When it comes to the end of your child’s compulsory education they may want to take things further. Funding your child’s education can be difficult. Advice on funding your child’s future can be found on these pages.
