The Welsh Financial Education Unit (WFEU) provides support to practitioners who are delivering financial education to 7 to 19 year olds.

WFEU was established in 2009 as a strand of the Welsh Government’s financial inclusion strategy. It offers a programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training for teachers. The training enables schools to help equip young people to manage their finances and make informed financial decisions.

WFEU’s work is aligned with provision made in the further education sector for learners up to the age of 19 years. This ensures continuity and progression in learning for those moving between school and further education as part of their 14-19 learning pathways.

Following an independent review in 2011 (see below), the Minister for Education and Skills agreed a continued programme of support for 2012-13 to embed financial education in primary and secondary schools. The programme of CPD training is being taken forward by two specialist advisers, one for primary and one for 11-19.
