We are responsible for keeping the whole school curriculum and its assessment arrangements under review and advising the Minister for Education and Skills accordingly.

Our vision is to provide a coherent and integrated curriculum and assessment framework for schools, which raises standards of achievement and widens educational opportunity.

Key information approaches and research on the curriculum (external link) and assessment arrangements (external link) can be found on Learning Wales.

Under review

The Minister for Education and Skills has made a commitment to developing a ‘Curriculum for Wales’. We initially consulted on proposals to strengthen and support the teaching of literacy, numeracy and wider skills that complement and consolidate the approach taken in the National Literacy and Numeracy Framework. We have also consulted on proposals to revise the Areas of Learning in the Foundation Phase and the programmes of study in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4.

An independent review, carried out by Professor Graham Donaldson is also underway.
