The Climate Change Commission for Wales was created in 2007.

It brings together the main political parties, sector interests, delivery bodies, academics and climate change experts to support delivery of climate change work in Wales.

The Commission’s purpose is to build agreement on what action is needed to respond to climate change. It also provides leadership in reducing emissions and preparing for the effects of climate change. The Commission has played a central role in developing the Climate Change Strategy, and Commissioners have a lead role to play in making action happen within the sectors they represent.

This year the Climate Change Commission for Wales celebrates it's 5th year anniversary. The Commission will meet to celebrate on 05 December in Cardiff. They will discuss what the Commission have achieved so far and, the many challenges ahead in meeting our targets to reduce emissions and adapt to the consequences of climate change.

In 2012 Cynnal Cymru started to provide the secretariat function for the Commission. This was part of a contract to deliver wider support for delivery of Sustainable Development in Wales.

An independent Chair for the Commission was appointed and took over leadership of the Commission in October 2009.
