The UK Government has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) leads action on climate change at the UK level.

DECC has the following key priorities:

  • to save energy with the Green Deal and support vulnerable consumers;
  • to deliver secure energy on the way to a low carbon energy future;
  • to drive ambitious action on climate change at home and abroad; and
  • to manage their energy legacy responsibly and cost-effectively.

As a result of devolution, action on climate change differs in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
