These pages provide advice and guidance on the licensing procedures for wildlife within Wales.

From 01 April 2013, Natural Resources Wales (external link) has taken over the work of the Countryside Council for Wales, Forestry Commission Wales, and Environment Agency Wales. Natural Resources Wales will also now carry out Wildlife and Countryside Act and European protected species licensing.

The new body was created to help improve services and make things easier for customers, suppliers and partners.

So Natural Resources Wales now issues all species licences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and 2010 Habitats Regulations (European protected species licences). We will continue to issue badger licences under Section 10(2) and (3) of the Protection of Badgers Act 1992.

If you already have a licence with an end date after 01 April 2013, the legal status and conditions of your licence will stay the same. We have transferred the licence information we hold to Natural Resources Wales.
