The Marine Conservation Zone Project Wales

These zones are for the conservation of marine plants or animals, habitats or geological features. 

Following the consultation (see under related links), we are now undertaking more work to look at the feedback we received and consider how we should proceed with MCZs in Wales.

This does not mean that the MCZ Project Wales has ended. We are thinking about our approach to MCZs in light of the consultation responses. We are listening to your ideas, responding to them before then seeking further views. 

We will look at the roles of the Technical Advisory Group and Stakeholder and Citizen Engagement Group following the outcome of the task and finish team’s recommendations.

How will the Project work?

We have established a Steering Group and a Technical Advisory Group. We  have also asked the Wales Coastal and Maritime Partnership to establish a Stakeholder and Citizen Engagement Group.

The Steering Group

The Steering Group provides the direction for the project and ensures it delivers the aims and objectives. The Steering Group will make the final decisions and recommendations, for example on the final site selection criteria and methodology.

The Technical Advisory Group

The Technical Advisory Group is the operational arm of the project. It provides technical and specialist advice to the process.

The Stakeholder and Citizen Engagement Group sits under the Wales Coastal and Maritime Partnership.
