Case study 10: Woodlands for Wales

When we revised our woodland strategy in 2009 we accepted that ancient woodland sites should be favoured over conifer woods to improve the range of living things (biodiversity) in these areas. We realised that this would reduce Welsh timber production.

Case study 4: Llŷn Heaths (Cadw’r Lliw yn Llŷn)

The Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covers 155Km2 and protects the area from inappropriate development. Cadw’r Lliw yn Llŷn was an European Union funded project which ran from 2004 to 2009. It addressed the management of 1250 hectares of heath and coastal grassland.
 

Case study 3: Elan Valley grasslands

The Elan Valley grasslands are owned by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. They work with the Elan Valley Trust, the Countryside Council for Wales and local farms to achieve good water quality and conserve wildlife.
