When we revised our woodland strategy in 2009 we accepted that ancient woodland sites should be favoured over conifer woods to improve the range of living things (biodiversity) in these areas. We realised that this would reduce Welsh timber production.

The strategy aims to bring more woodlands into sustainable management and increase the amount of woodland in Wales.
