Struggling with your fuel bill?

We have a fuel poverty scheme, called Nest, which might be able to help you reduce your fuel bills.

Our Nest scheme is managed for us by British Gas. The scheme started in April 2011 and is a 5 year programme. The scheme:

  • provides advice and support to all households in Wales to help them reduce their energy bills
  • offers free energy efficiency improvement packages to eligible householders.

What help is available?

The scheme expects to help up to 15,000 households each year. It gives advice on:

  • ways to save energy and make your home more energy efficient
  • energy tariffs and to ensure you are on the most appropriate tariff for your situation
  • benefit entitlement checks
  • money management advice.

The Nest scheme can also help those who are eligible to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

Who is eligible for help?

Everyone can get advice from the Nest Scheme.

But, you may be able to receive help to improve your home’s energy efficiency if you:

  • receive a means tested benefit
  • live in a privately owned or privately rented home that is very energy inefficient with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of F or G.

The help you could get could include:

  • a new boiler
  • central heating
  • loft and cavity wall insulation
  • newer technologies such as Air Source Heat Pumps
  • external wall insulation.
