Severn tidal power
This cross-government project was carried out to assess the pros and cons of a Severn tidal power scheme. The project was led by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and strongly supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and other government departments.

Findings of the study

The findings have concluded that now is not the right time to develop a Severn tidal power scheme. The costs and risks for the taxpayer and energy consumer would be too high given the current financial situation. Other renewable energy sources might give a better deal for taxpayers, industry and consumers at this time.

More information

The final report of the study public was published on 18 October 2010. It is available on the Department for Energy and Climate Change website.
