Industrial smoke pollution

Pollution from industrial processes in Wales has been increasingly controlled by law over the past 150 years.

The current legislation is the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 and covers around 1,650 businesses in Wales.

Annual statistical report

The report contains information about:

  • charging income received;
  • numbers of permit applications;
  • how many installations in different industry sectors hold permits; 
  • the time taken to process applications; and 
  • the number of inspections made.
