We have produced two documents which outline procedures for identifying “quiet areas” in agglomerations (large urban areas) and Noise Action Planning Priority Areas.

Identifying quiet areas

In this document, we set out the conditions that an official quiet area must meet. Once an area is confirmed as an official quiet area, it will get more noise protection under statutory planning guidance.

Identifying priority areas

In this document, we specify checks that determine which areas are confirmed as Noise Action Planning Priority Areas. The checks are technical. They cover the reliability of the strategic noise maps and population exposure model.
