The Appeals Process

The Appeals Process consists of two stages. Applications at both stages must be received no later than 60 days after the date of the letter notifying of the decision that is being appealed against. Appeals received after this deadline cannot be considered.

The process consists of two stages -

Stage 1 :  the decision will be reviewed by the office that made the initial decision (e.g. your Divisional Office or local agri-environment office).

There is no charge for this review.  Applicants who are dissatisfied with the decision reached at Stage 1 have the right to appeal to an independent Panel.

Stage 2 :  a panel of independent appointees will re-consider an appeal.  The applicant may choose to attend an oral hearing or request that the case be considered in writing.

A charge of £50 (for a written review) or £100 (for an oral review) is levied, but this is repaid in full if the appeal is successful or partly successful.
