Summary of project

The project aims to carry out a study into the environmental issues affecting local business. Looking specifically at rural communities this project is aimed at complementing the existing work carried out by the local environmental support network, which is generally accessed by organisations within industrial areas.

The key priority areas of consideration will be:-

  • Encourage recycling within local business and communities
  • Reduce waste to land fill
  • Improve energy efficiency and usage
  • Encourage renewable energy as a means to greater efficiency
  • Environmental best practice – development of cluster
  • Transport schemes to reduce CO2 emissions
  • Packaging reduction
  • Raw materials and alternatives/bio degradable materials.

This project is centred around three key elements.

1. The Study

The study would produce a real up to date impact assessment of how local rural businesses currently deal with the environmental agenda across the borough.

2. Wrexham wide Environmental Cluster

This group will as part of its remit, look to and encourage recycling between businesses, inter-trading, share good practice and pooling opportunities over the initial phase of the project, with the intention of building a membership of businesses/organisations.

3. Recycling pilot project

The third aim is to instigate several small but significant recycling/pooling projects across one or more of the smaller rural Industrial estates within the borough.
