Cross compliance is a European Union (EU) requirement setting out standards that farmers have to meet in order to receive the Single Farm Payment (SFP).
The Farm Advisory Service (FAS) offers one-to-one, confidential, on-farm advice. It is flexible and can be tailored to the needs of your farm.
if you've seen a term you don't understand, please check here for an explanation.

This subsidised on-farm service will help you to meet cross-compliance requirements.

The advice you receive will be:

  • One-to-one
  • Confidential

The Farm Advisory Service can help you to prepare for your next cross compliance inspection.  A farm advisory visit from an approved adviser can address:

  • Animal identification
  • Animal welfare
  • Environmental protection
  • Environmental management
  • Land management
  • Food law

Invest in a farm advisory visit – reduce the risk of breaching regulations

There are two main types of requirements related to cross compliance:

  • Statutory Management Requirements (SMRs) – these are specific European legal requirements relating to environment, public, plant and animal health, and animal welfare.

  • Good Agricultural and Environmental Conditions (GAECs) of land, soils and habitat.  This is a domestic requirement designed to avoid the abandonment of agricultural land, and its environmental consequences.

Farm advisory visits together with specialist support from an approved adviser will give you on-farm advice and training.

Farm advisory visits

Choose from a list of Farming Connect approved advisors to arrange a visit to your farm in order to assess the performance of your farm and highlight possible management improvements.

A farm advisory visit could help you develop a clear plan to help you meet cross compliance or provide you with advice on a specific issue on Statutory Management Requirements (SMRs) and Good Agricultural & Environmental Condition (GAEC) depending on your individual requirements.

You can claim back 80% of the costs.

To benefit from the Farm Advisory Service, you must be registered with Farming Connect.  To register, please contact the service centre on 08456 000 813.
