We want to make it easier for consumers to buy food and drink produced in their locality.

The Welsh Government promotes local sourcing of food and drink in Wales. This means helping producers, retailers, and other members of the supply chain to sell food in the locality in which it was produced.

The vision of the Local Sourcing Action Plan is:

“A vibrant, profitable and sustainable local food and drink sector serving a network of locally based food and drink outlets accessible to all people living in or close to Wales.”

Getting local food to local people has many potential benefits, including freshness of produce, reduced food miles, improved sustainability and encouraging the local economy.

Local sourcing of food and drink can be achieved through encouraging food festivals, farmers’ markets and farm shops. Find out more about these by following the link on the right.
