Food for Wales, Food from Wales sets out a wide ranging vision of the place of food in Wales, outlining a clear direction for the Welsh food industry to grow in a sustainable and profitable manner over the next ten years.

The Strategy is founded on principles of sustainable development, which includes economic, social and environmental aspects of the production and consumption of food.  Government cannot deliver this alone, and industry and other stakeholders have a key role in delivery.

The Strategy considers cross-cutting issues such as health, food culture and education, food security, environmental sustainability, and community development. This provides the basis for an integrated approach to food policy in Wales. It intends to:

  • build resilience in the food system;
  • encourage a stronger food economy in Wales; and,
  • enhance the capabilities and capacities of food businesses to compete effectively both at home and abroad.

Delivery Plan

Food for Wales, Food from Wales looks ahead over the next 10 years. It reflects comments gained from a wide-range of stakeholders, both inside and outside of government. The Welsh Government, in partnership with the industry, is considering the best way to approach the delivery of key aspects of the agreed direction.
