The Health Act 2009 included specific tobacco control measures in relation to display of tobacco products at the point of sale and vending machines. The primary focus of these provisions is protecting children and young people.

We have proposed a number of changes to the regulations regulating the display of tobacco products at the point of sale:

  • Increasing the size of the requested display area
  • Allowing temporary incidental displays while stock taking, staff training, pricing and refurbishment are taking place
  • Increasing the size of the bilingual notice to be displayed at the entrance to the tobacco area in a bulk tobacconist.
