Most people in Wales are not physically active enough to benefit their health.

Experts recommend that you should try to achieve 30 minutes' moderate intensity activity (activity that makes you slightly out of breath) on at least five days a week.  Only 29 per cent of adults in Wales are active to this level.

Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for many chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, some cancers, type II diabetes and osteoporosis.

Inactive people are more likely to be overweight, have higher blood pressure and/or high cholesterol levels, and to suffer from mental health problems.

Elderly people who are inactive have a higher risk of falls and serious injuries.

Physical activity is a key element in the Welsh Assembly Government’s approach to coronary heart disease prevention and treatment.
