There is a very high burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Wales.

Over 11,000 deaths per year are attributable to diseases of the circulatory system.

This leads to a very high burden of cardiovascular dsease (CVD) in Wales.

Following the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) a multidisciplinary Vascular Project Group (VPG) has been established.  Their purpose is to advise on how Wales can strengthen the way it currently manages those with, or who are at risk from vascular disease.

The VPG recommends that the first action to take is a methodical review of the provision of care and support relevant to the prevention of CVD in Wales. This would include a review of existing systems across primary, community and secondary care in the NHS structures, identifying where there are opportunities to minimise duplication of effort.

It recommends that this service review is then used to inform the development of an implementation plan.
