One Wales includes the commitment to ‘explore the opportunity to place occupational health services on a statutory basis’.

The report sets out the conclusions and recommendations of the One Wales Occupational Health Task and Finish Group.

This group was set up to consider the One Wales commitment and was chaired by  Professor Mansel Aylward, CB.

The three recommendations are:

  • Changes to the current risk and evidenced based legislation relating to occupational health are not an effective way of improving health and reducing ill health.
  • The integrated approach to Occupational Health which the Minister outlined in the Welsh Assembly Government’s response to Dame Carol Black’s report should be further developed.
  • As part of this integrated approach, a national occupational health service, provided by the NHS made viable by contributions from employers, should be established.

The Minister for Health and Social Services has accepted the recommendations.

She has asked Professor Aylward to develop the proposal of a national occupational health service and indicate the running cost of such a service.

Disclaimer

We are having to prioritise our use of the finite translation resources available to the Assembly Government. Unfortunately, on that basis, we are unable to provide a Welsh version of the One Wales Occupational Health Task and Finish Group Report.

This is because other items have been given a higher priority rating and have thus taken precedence in the allocation of resources.

The approach for setting priorities is set out in the Welsh Language Scheme for the Welsh Assembly Government prepared under the Welsh Language Act 1993.
