Epilepsy is the most common neurological condition, with approximately 1,500 new cases in Wales each year. It is a complex condition that can affect anyone at any age and have a dramatic impact on health, economic activity and life more generally.

The Welsh Assembly Government has now published the Service Development Directives for Epilepsy.  This document, the fourth in a series of Directives on Chronic Conditions, is an important element in discharging the Welsh Assembly Government’s commitment to improving the management of Chronic Conditions.

This publication is issued at a very important time for the delivery of health
and social care services. We have embarked on a process of change in the organisation of the NHS, necessary in order to improve services for all patients through a more effective system of planning and service delivery. It is crucial that momentum is maintained through this process ensuring that strong partnerships and co-operation become the bedrock of future public service delivery across Wales.
