Disability

The UK Government’s Department for Work and Pensions has responsibility for most of the help available for disabled people.

The day to day running of the benefits system is undertaken by three delivery organisations:

  • Jobcentre Plus;
  • Pension Disability and Carers Service; and
  • Debt Management.

Tax credits, child benefit and guardian’s allowance are administered by HM Revenue and Customs.

The Welsh Government has responsibility for areas such as the NHS, social care, education, transport and housing. It also has a statutory duty to ensure that equality of opportunity is embedded in its work, and is committed to creating an accessible society for all people.

Adults with Learning Disabilities

Our approach to adults with learning disabilities is rooted in the vision that all people with a learning disability are full citizens, equal in status and value to other citizens of the same age. They have the same rights to live health, productive and healthy lives with appropriate and responsive treatment and support.

Adults with Physical and Sensory Disabilities

Our approach for adults with physical and sensory disabilities is to develop national framework policies that will provide flexible, timely, fair and seamless services.  These services are designed to meet the needs of disabled people in a way that enhances their quality of life and sustains their independence in their community.
