We believe that everyone in Wales should have the opportunity to live in a good quality home within a safe and secure community. To help achieve this aim we published the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS). This standard requires all social landlords to improve their housing stock to an acceptable level by 2012 or by agreement with Welsh Ministers.
The Revised Guidance for Social Landlords on Interpretation of WHQS dated July 2008 contains detailed instructions advising social landlords what they should do to improve the physical condition of their properties. These instructions are outlined in this guidance; however the WHQS is seeking to achieve more than just an improvement in the condition of social housing stock. It also aims to bring wider benefits by integrating social, environmental and economic concerns.
