What was the problem?

A late night refreshment premises situated in the High Street had agreed licensing hours until 03.00. An increase in disorder including assaults, criminal damage, public order offences were identified as relating to the premises. Closer analysis identified these incidents as occurring between 01.00 and 03.00.

What actions were taken?

Analysis of the problems was gathered and a review of the licence was made by the Licensing and Regulatory Panel. A decision was made based on the evidence produced by the police that resulted in the licence being reviewed and the premises being required to close at 01.00. This decision was appealed by the owner and was upheld by the Magistrates Court who agreed with the Panels decision.

What was the outcome?

Since the review of the licence and reduction in the opening hours crime has been noticeably reduced with reported incidents at and around the premises being reduced by 75%.
