What was the problem?

Both domestic burglary and repeat victims of domestic burglary were increasing.

What actions were taken?

A lockfitting scheme was establised to help vulnerable groups such as:

  • older people
  • disabled people
  • victims of domestic burglary.

This scheme also included a number of target hardening projects in partnership with local police.

What was the outcome?

Domestic burglary was reduced by 20% with repeat victimisation reduced to zero. A user group made up of representatives of the community was also formed. This group took responsibility and ownership for delivering part of the scheme.
