Since formal devolution of the Fire and Rescue Service in Wales the Welsh Assembly Government, the Fire and Rescue Authorities, service personnel, and our other partners and key stakeholders have been working to ensure that we continue to receive the very best in fire and rescue services.

We recognise that delivery of an improved fire and rescue service for the people in Wales depends largely on the efforts of individual fire and rescue authorities working with their local communities and, increasingly, altogether through collaboration. Working in this way will reduce the number of deaths and fire related injuries and protect domestic and public property in Wales.

We also have an important role to play in relation to prevention, education and engaging with the communities across Wales. Firefighters are highly regarded role models for our young people, while fire stations, centrally located for many of our communities, are becoming increasingly important focal points for community activity, in addition to their traditional role.

The Fire and Rescue Service in Wales will work to provide responsive services and continue to deliver the high standards that we have come to expect.
