Information on the development of the Fleetmap for the FireLink National Radio System.

The Firelink digital trunked radio communications system replaced the analogue radio systems used by Fire and Rescue Services.

The key features of Firelink are:

  • fire and rescue appliances supporting major incidents outside of their area able to speak directly to the control room of the host fire and rescue service
  • automatic vehicle location to ensure the closest fire and rescue appliance is sent to incidents
  • ability to transfer data to mobile fire and rescue appliances, ensuring that the most up-to-date information on buildings and incidents is available
  • enhanced interoperability with the other emergency services helping them work together better.

There are two Phases to the Firelink project in Wales:

  • Phase A – the resilience work on the network
  • Phase B – fitting out of radios into appliances

The project is running well with both Phase A and B rolled out and maintenance and support arrangements are in place for all three Welsh Fire and Rescue Services now operating on Firelink.
