Performance Indicators in Wales

Local planning authorities in England and Wales are required to provide statistical information to national and regional Governments, to demonstrate their achievements against agreed targets. These were originally known as “Best Value Performance Indicators”.

Welsh local planning authorities agreed a set of Wales-specific indicators for the year 2000-2001, that reflected the differing demands on the Welsh planning system (the “Wales Programme for Improvement” indicators).

In April 2005, a new set of national performance indicators were introduced for Welsh local authorities.  These performance indicators are reviewed and updated annually, to ensure they remain fit for purpose.
