The latest statistics on Estimates of Farm Incomes produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 18 February 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release presents forecasts for farm incomes in Wales in 2009-10. The figures are based on Farm Business Survey data for 2008/09 and observed and forecast movements in key determinants of income such as prices, subsidies, production costs and animal numbers during 2009-10.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Farm Income for 'All Farm Types' is forecast to increase between 2008-09 and 2009-10, with average Farm Business Income up 7 per cent.
  • Average Farm Business Income on cattle and sheep farms is forecast to rise reflecting strong market prices for beef and lamb, reduced input costs and an increase in the value of the Single Payment.
  • Farm Business Income on Dairy farms is forecast to fall 11 per cent between 2008-09 and 2009-10, this is due to lower farm gate milk prices during the first part of 2009.
