The latest statistics on Farm Incomes produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 8 December 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This release presents farm income figures based on three different measures: Farm Business Income (FBI), Net Farm Income (NFI) and Cash Income. The figures are from the annual Farm Business Survey.  The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 18 February 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Average Farm Business Income across 'All Farm Types' increased by 16% between 2008-09 and 2009-10.  2009-10 was the fourth consecutive year in which average Farm Business Income increased in Wales.
  • Strong beef and lamb prices, lower input costs and an increase in the average value of the Single Farm Payment all combined to deliver large increases in average farm business income on grazing livestock farms.
  • Average Farm Business Income on Welsh Dairy farms was 16% lower in 2009-10 than 2008-09.  This decline is a result of falling farm-gate milk prices during the first half of 2009.
