The latest statistics on aggregate agricultural output and income produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 28 February 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on agricultural output, Gross Value Added (GVA) from agriculture and Total Income From Farming (TIFF) are presented for 2008-10. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 18 February 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Total Income from Farming (TIFF) is estimated to have decreased by 19 per cent, from £220.8 million in 2009 to £178.2 million in 2010.
  • The value of agricultural output in Wales in 2010 increased by approximately 3% to £1.2 billion.  There was an increase in the value of output in the cereals, sheep and dairy sectors but a reduction in the value of output from the cattle sector.
  • Intermediate Consumption increased by approximately 6 per cent.  This increase was driven by higher prices for feed, fertiliser and fuel in 2010.
  • The value of subsidy payments decreased from £357.4 million in 2009 to £330 million in 2010.  This is largely a result of changes in the £/€ exchange rate impacting on the value of the Single Payment.
